Insuring Your Honeymoon

After all the months of planning, it’s finally time for your wedding and your honeymoon! We know wedding planning can sometimes be challenging but choosing where to go on your honeymoon shouldn’t be. Your honeymoon is the perfect time to take that dream vacation you and your significant other have always considered. Some couples choose a leisure vacation in a tropical destination to relax and enjoy the beach, and other honeymooners prefer a little more adventure and book things like African safaris or hiking in the Rocky Mountains. Regardless of the type of honeymoon trip you are taking, you should make sure that you are aware of any travel rules and regulations that may be in place for the country you are visiting. From COVID-19 restrictions to terror threats, you need to be alert and protected before you depart.

Is travel insurance a requirement for your honeymoon destination?

With COVID-19 restrictions easing by the day, it is hard to narrow down an exact list of countries that are still requiring travel insurance for entry. It is best to head directly to the source and check out your destination country’s official web page.

Even if the country you are visiting does not require travel insurance, we recommend that you purchase a travel insurance plan to protect yourself and your investment in your trip because you never know when an unforeseen circumstance can occur and disrupt your travel plans.

Why should you buy travel insurance for your honeymoon?

A honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime excursion with your partner. These vacations tend to be expensive, depending on the destination, and activities you plan on doing while on your trip can add up quickly. Travel insurance protects your investment in your honeymoon and protects you from unforeseen events that can disrupt your trip. For example, if you must cancel your honeymoon because of a sickness or injury, a family member's death, or if a natural disaster happens at your destination, your travel insurance plan could reimburse you for your prepaid, non-refundable travel expenses.

What type of travel insurance should you purchase for your honeymoon?

The most comprehensive travel insurance plans include Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption, Trip Delay, Primary Emergency Medical coverage, and Medical Evacuation coverage. Trawick International is one of the few travel insurance providers that treats COVID-19 the same as any other sickness.

We also offer Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) coverage. CFAR provides reimbursement for up to 75% of the prepaid, non-refundable, forfeited payments made for your trip if you cancel your trip for any reason not otherwise covered by the base plan, up to two days before your trip is to begin. CFAR must be purchased with the initial policy and within 21 days of the initial trip deposit date, and the full, nonrefundable trip cost is insured. This option is not available in all states.

For example, if you booked your honeymoon and didn’t get married or just didn't feel comfortable traveling and wanted to cancel the trip, a trip cancellation plan on its own would not reimburse you based on those reasons. However, if you have CFAR, you could be reimbursed up to 75% of prepaid expenses, as long you cancel at least two days before your trip.

When should you buy travel insurance?

To maximize your benefits, you should plan to insure your trip as soon as you book your trip, within 21 days of the initial trip deposit, and include all prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs. You can still purchase travel insurance up until the day before you leave for your trip, but after the 21-day period you may not be eligible for time-sensitive benefits such as Cancel For Any Reason or Financial Default.

How much does travel insurance cost?
