The Safe Travels Voyager plan provides up to $100,000 for trip cancellation and includes a $250,000 per person limit for primary medical coverage. The plan now offers up to $2,000 of Travel Delay coverage to comply with the new regulations.

Yes, the Safe Travels Voyager plan is in compliance with the government requirements of Costa Rica.

Will I receive a letter for Costa Rica?

Yes, you will receive documentation that confirms you have travel insurance.

A visa letter and a certificate of coverage will be sent to the email address you provide. The Visa letter will include the summary of coverage showing COVID coverage requirements are met so you can travel to Costa Rica. You will need to upload this letter to the Costa Rica Health Pass website:

How do I get a Costa Rica QR Code?

After you upload your travel insurance letter to the Costa Rica Health Pass Website you will need to complete your Travel Authorization application. Once the application is complete, you will receive a QR from the Costa Rica Health Pass Website. This code will be needed to show airport authorities upon arrival in Costa Rica.

Does this policy cover COVID-19?

Who is eligible for this policy?

The Costa Rica compliant policy, Safe Travels Voyager, is for US citizens/residents who live in and are traveling from the USA.  If you are not a US resident/citizen we currently do not have a plan to meet the requirements for travel to Costa Rica.

Can I buy this travel insurance policy on the day I leave for my trip?

Costa Rica travel insurance must be purchased at least one day prior to your departure date. This coverage cannot be purchased on the day of departure.

Benefits for this plan include Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption, Primary Emergency Medical Coverage, and more. COVID-19 MEDICAL EXPENSES are covered and treated the same as any other sickness. The Safe Travels Voyager plan meets the Costa Rica Travel Insurance Requirements.

Costa Rica travel insurance requirements:
  • Coverage for Medical expenses in the event of becoming ill with the pandemic COVID-19 virus while in Costa Rica, for at least $50,000
  • Includes minimum coverage of $2,000 for potential quarantine lodging expenses issued as a result of the pandemic

Optional Cancel For Any Reason coverage:

There is an optional Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) benefit that provides reimbursement for 75% of the prepaid, non-refundable, forfeited payments you paid for your trip if you cancel your trip for any reason not otherwise covered by this policy. Must be purchased with initial policy and within 21 days of the initial trip deposit date, and the full, nonrefundable trip cost is insured. (this is not available in every state).

How much does travel insurance cost?

Travel insurance cost is based on your age, cost of the trip, length of trip, and other factors. You should include all non-refundable travel expenses so in the event your trip is canceled or interrupted, you will be able to recover the investment. When should I buy travel insurance?

To maximize your benefits, you should insure your trip within 21 days of the initial trip deposit date, and insure all prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs. You can still purchase travel insurance after the 21 day period but may not be eligible for options such as Cancel For Any Reason or Financial Default.

Does this plan cover mandatory COVID testing to reenter the USA?

Effective January 26, 2021, all travelers flying into the United States will need to show a negative COVID-19 test before entering the country. Airlines will be responsible for confirming the negative test results for all passengers before they board a flight to the United States. The cost of this mandatory test is not a covered benefit under any of our travel insurance plans. The plans do not have benefit additional accommodations for to travel to get the test. If someone doesn’t receive the test results in time, this would not be a covered travel delay/trip interruption benefit. In the event someone has a positive test, there could be coverage for travel delays for additional accommodations due to quarantine.
